The rapid rise of platform economics offers both opportunities and risks from the consumer's perspective. Especially in the area of the sharing economy, new offers for consumers have emerged. Comparison platforms contribute to greater product and price transparency. Even as a provider (prosumer), consumers can benefit from the new possibilities of platform economics and open up new sources of income. However, these advantages are offset by a number of new risks. Some of these risks are addressed in the proposal for an adaptation of consumer legislation under the "New Deal for Consumers" presented by the European Commission in April 2018.
