Privacy protection currently plays hardly any role in the plans for virtual worlds in the metaverse. If this does not change, the metaverse will take the collection and analysis of personal data to the next level.
Johanna Grün, a master's student of political science at the University of Gothenburg, reports on privacy risks in the metaverse and on political and technical solutions in her guest article on the Bertelsmann Foundation's blog ‘reframe[Tech] - Algorithms for the Common Good”. The blog post is based on Johanna Grün's experiences as a ConPolicy intern in the PRIME (PRIvacy in the Metaverse) project.
