The study „Sustainable mobility concept EURO 2024“ focuses on promoting sustainable mobility during the 2024 European Football Championship in Germany. Since the transportation sector is one of the main contributors to greenhouse gas emissions, promoting sustainable mobility is crucial in the fight against climate change. Large sports events, such as the 2024 European Football Championship in Germany, present significant challenges regarding sustainable mobility. Therefore, such events should integrate targeted measures to promote sustainable mobility in their planning and execution.

The study is based on a comprehensive literature review and analysis of relevant studies, with a particular focus on European sports events of the past 17 years. The identified measures are analyzed regarding the spatial dimension of traffic volume and the various groups of actors involved. Based on these results, recommendations for sustainable mobility solutions in the context of the EURO 2024 are presented.

The results underscore the importance of comprehensive collaboration among event organizers, governments, transportation authorities, transportation companies, and civil society to achieve sustainable mobility at major sports events. Public participation in planning and decision-making processes, as well as the integration of feedback loops, can help develop a shared vision and implement measures that are supported by all actors. A comprehensive and integrated
environmental strategy can help reduce the ecological footprint of events while also considering social and economic aspects.

Overall, the study demonstrates that promoting sustainable mobility at major sports events is an important tool for reducing greenhouse gas emissions. Event organizers should integrate targeted measures to promote sustainable mobility in their planning and execution to reduce the negative impacts of transportation on the environment and quality of life in urban areas. It is essential to implement these measures not only during the event but also long term in the region to establish sustainable mobility for the future.
