In this report, the points of intersection between on the one hand the hoped-for shift in Germany toward a green economy and on the other hand the increasing digitization are considered and analyzed. In particular, the areas of application and the transformation potential of Big Data, AI and digital platforms are considered in the move toward a green economy. A differentiated set of approaches and different methodological procedures tailored to each of the three distinct digital technologies are chosen for detailed analysis. The findings on Big Data, AI and digital platforms, which were obtained separately, are then examined collectively under the aspect of possible obstacles and risks so that assessments can be made for all technologies regarding the role of digitization in the transformation to a green economy. Based on the findings obtained, recommendations for action regarding environmental, climate protection and sustainability-related changes to the framework conditions are then developed and presented.
