Civil society needs to be more involved in digital policy processes to address growing global and national inequality and to address climate change and environmental crises. Some unsustainable consequences of digitalization are only gradually becoming visible and are difficult to predict, depending on the social sectors and groups of people affected. In order for digital policy to serve the common good and not just represent particular economic interests, it is essential to involve civil society more closely and proactively take their perspectives into account. Only if this diversity of societal perspectives is taken into account in digital policy is it possible to steer digitization toward a sustainable future.
