The member states of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) have committed themselves to developing the legal framework for effective competition and consumer protection, as well as to creating and strengthening the necessary institutions. The German federal government has commissioned the Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) to assist the ASEAN countries with this in the period from early 2015 until the end of 2017. For Vietnam, Laos and the Philippines, moreover, a special consulting focus in the field of consumer policy has been declared.
ConPolicy supported the GIZ, together with relevant partners in Lao PDR and the Philippines, in the design of a project plan for the strengthening and professionalization of consumer policy, to identify appropriate projects and stakeholders and to develop an effective project governance.
In order to provide these consulting services, ConPolicy was on-site in November 2014 in Laos and in April 2015 in the Philippines.
