Sustainable public food provision represents a central lever to promote sustainable food production and sustainable nutrition. In recent years, various federal states, municipalities and civil society actors have already advocated for the development of so-called nutrition strategies, which always focus on the promotion of sustainable (public) food provision.
In the light of this background, ConPolicy was commissioned by the Verbraucherzentrale NRW with the project 'Strategies of a Sustainable Public Food Provision in NRW'. The aim of this project is to develop political strategies for the development of sustainable public food provision in NRW.
In the first phase of the project, success factors of already existing Good-Practice examples for the promotion of sustainable public food provision were identified. In a second step, an analysis of the literature, expert interviews and a focus group was used to assess the NRW-specific conditions relevant for the promotion of sustainable public food provision. Based on these first two steps, two strategies for the development of sustainable public food provision in NRW were developed. The results were presented on August 30, 2021, during the symposium 'Sustainable community catering in NRW – From knowledge to action' in Düsseldorf.
